Visit the home of the Pyengana story at Pyengana Farmgate Café, just 25 minutes from St Helens on Tasmania’s beautiful north-east coast. The farmers of Pyengana have been handcrafting traditional cloth-matured farmhouse cheddar for over 130 years, and their legacy lives on at the farmgate, where our cheesemakers make a range of cheeses to traditional recipes using heritage vats that have passed through generations of Pyengana artisans.

Get to know the farm’s family of happy cows who graze on the lush pastures of Pyengana, thanks to the region’s clean air, rich soil and pristine river water. Our cows wander in for milking several times each day whenever they’re ready … and stop for a back scratch on their way back to the paddock! With milk sourced just 100 metres from the cheesery, Pyengana Dairy products are a truly paddock-to-plate experience.
Situated on acres of rolling green hills, Pyengana Farmgate Café is an idyllic country paradise in which to enjoy our menu of local produce and dairy heroes with friends and family. Indulge in a breakfast or lunch specialty, share a gourmet platter on the scenic deck, savour barista coffee and Tasmanian wines and beers, give the kids free rein in the on-site playground, and pick up a scoop of local ice-cream for the drive out.
Take a piece of Tassie home, with a selection of Pyengana and other local products available for purchase at the farmgate. We can pack your favourite products in a cooler bag for the road, or have them delivered to you on your return home.
